Reflection on Vegetarianisim.

So on October 1st, at approximately 12:01 a.m. I cooked myself Chicken. Real chicken. Not chick’n. Which means my month of vegetarianism has come to a close.

Though I did not decide to remain vegetarian after the month of September, I do not consider my month of vegetarianism a waste of time.

I loved the challenge, and I have gained more self-control. I have come to like lettuce (romaine lettuce, not iceberg….), tofu is no longer scary and I’ve come to love many other non-meat items. I never really felt gross or excessively full after eating, just satisfied. Though, there were a few cons.

During the month of September, I had to go to the doctor two different times for different things, and once to the ER for something else. I’ve been tired and grumpy. I can’t satisfactorily prove that these things were due to the fact that I wasn’t eating meat, but I’ve never been this sick, tired, and grumpy in my life….

However, I am still very glad I did this experiment. I’ve learned loads, and gained some solid life experience. Ha. But for real. I did.

Now, time to lose the weight from all the carbs…

:)

Day 20.

Breakfast: nothing.

Lunch: Chick’n nuggets (not chicken, chick’n…the veggie kind)

Dinner: so far? Veggie Pizza…again. Seriously, it’s the easiest thing for me to get, since I don’t have a kitchen to create delectable dishes like miss hh…

This is getting old. I’m really not super motivated to be a veggie head anymore. I miss meat… A lot.

I used my free meal on some delicious Chinese take-out. Mmmm Beef Broccoli. Lo-Mein. Sweet and Sour Pork. Egg Rolls. Beautiful.

One bonus of this month of Vegetarianism: I like a LOT more vegetables than I did before this experiment, and I’m a lot more willing to eat them.

Okay bye!

Finally deciding to add my written thoughts to this blog…

I am sick of eggs. I am sick of veggie sandwiches. I am so unmotivated to eat anything. I stand in front of the fridge and shut it, walk over to the pantry and stare at it for a while… No inspiration. Go back to the fridge… Nothing… Pantry… I don’t want cereal… OK scrambled eggs it is…

However, last night i was quite pleased with my food. I forgot to take a picture so I’ll just describe it.

OK lets see… Cooked some spinach gluten-free spaghetti I finally decided i should use, sautéed some mushrooms for a bit, added some roasted red peppers, garlic and cherry tomatoes and cooked that stuff all together for a bit. Added some pesto I made the other day and then tossed the spaghetti with it and sprinkled some Romano cheese on top. OH, and really wanted asparagus so I broiled that in the oven and just had it as a side. It was a super satisfying meal, actually. It did look a bit weird though with the green noodles and green sauce…

I want recipe suggestions, though. Can any of our handful of followers help me out? I like just about everything… Except goat cheese. To me, that tastes like the smell of goats. ha

Reply with recipes!

ALSO, our garden is exploding with tomatoes, especially cherry, and basil. So if you have recommendations using both or either that would be fantastic.

Day 14
Veggie Wrap and Cucumbers with Ranch
I put too much stuff in the wrap.
Avocado, alfalfa sprouts, lots of cucumbers because our garden exploded with them, pickles, red peppers, jalapeños, banana peppers, pepper jack cheese, romaine lettuce and tomatoes… also some dijon mustard to even things out.
Tasty, but difficult to eat…

Also, a word on the wrap. Has anyone else tried these? They have a slightly odd texture but they really hold together quite well. Also, check out the nutritional facts. 100 calories, 9g of protein, and 8g of fiber with only 2.5g of fat. A bit high on the sodium I suppose, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Life on the outside

I can’t tell you how much I just love meat.

I feel like even in the week that I did succeed in not eating it, that I didn’t spend any money going out to eat, which by now all my money would be gone. But then I realized if I want to save money I should eat at home.

I also came to the realization that, I just like meat, especially chicken which I’m pretty sure I have consumed almost everyday since. While in being a vegetarian is not hard by any means, it makes my life inconvenient. I work everday during dinner and my work provides 1 break and during that break we get dinner. The only vegetarian option to eat there is cottage cheese….which I don’t want to live off of for the next month.

Sorry I have left, but I’m not sorry.

Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl HERE I COME!

…and then there were two.

Bones and Burgers

So today I had my first veggie burger… while watching Bones (best TV show EVEH… and I did mean to spell it eveh…).

   This was a bad idea.

Bones is a rather graphic television show… And veggie burgers have a rather interesting texture… and with ketchup, it just makes it worse. I could only eat during commercial breaks.

In and of themselves, though, veggie burgers aren’t all that bad; I rather enjoyed mine (after I figured out it was the TV show making me nauseous, not the burger).

OK bye :)

P.S.

What’s your favorite brand of veggie/garden burgers?

Hello Again

  So it’s been a while.

Update: I’ve been pretty good, for what, the past week? It’s been a while. I’ve discovered that my favorite vegetarian dish is “fo sho” pizza. So many beautiful possibilities. I’ve had pizza at least 4 times since we last chatted. Old Chicago has this…exquisite deep dish pizza with spinach, onions, carrots, guacamole, peppers, and God knows what else. Ahh lovely.

 Vegetarian dorm food is shitty.

I’ve been craving steak for the last 4 days.

  Star Crunch is gross.
